A biography of Alan Roemer
Many, many years ago, on the 8th day of October, a
young man was born by the name of Alan Roemer. He grew up in
Weatherford, TX and even at an early age, he felt the desire to
teach. Whenever he played school with his cousins, he was
always the teacher. He will sadly recount the story to you
of how one of his elementary teachers gave him the
extra memeographed worksheets and some unadopted
sample textbooks so he could use them in his pretend
school. He graduated from Weatherford High
School in 1991 and attended Weatherford College for three
years and Tarleton State University for two years, Yes, he
is aware that many people spend more time at major
universities than at junior colleges... After graduating with a
Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 1996, Alan Roemer
applied for a math job with Weatherford ISD. He taught one
[tiring/tough] year at WHS and was then shuffled with the
ninth graders to Hall Junior High as a second junior high
was added to the district. He taught there for six years
before the growing pains of WISD added a Ninth Grade Center.
After teaching there for two years, he finally made the leap
to teach something other than ninth graders again. He is
still teaching at Weatherford High School and is even the
head of the math department. He has
taught PSAT prep classes, algebra 1, geometry (regular and
Pre-AP), algebra 2 (regular and pre-AP), AP Calculus (AB),
pre-calculus, Algebraic Reasoning, Advanced Quantitative Reasoning (AQR) and he has even been a part of WISD’s online classes and former blended courses. He has also taught/teaches dual credit and dual enrollment classes for Weatherford College and Tarleton State University.
taught over 28 years all for WISD!
In
addition to teaching students, "Roemer" (as he has come to be
known) taught hundreds of new teachers through Weatherford College’s
Alternative Certification Program. He trained over 100 WISD
teachers through the Intel Teach program (and more than that
same number of new teachers for WC). He has led several
workshops for various topics in mathematics as well as for
computer applications like Geometer’s Sketchpad and Canvas LMS.
Currently, in addition to teaching, he recently
earned on his Masters of Arts in Mathematics
through the University of Houston.
